2016 Americas Cup

This weekend sees one of the highlights of the WDF calendar, the Americas Cup.  Held in even years (alternating with the WDF World Cup), the Americas Cup was founded in 2002, replacing the former Pacific Cup.  As the name suggests, the tournament is restricted to nations within the Americas, including the Caribbean nations.

The 2016 event is being held in the luxurious Crane Resort in St. Philip, Barbados.  This is the second time that Barbados has played host, having staged the 2006 Americas Cup.  Other hosting nations have been the US (twice), Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, and Belize.  The Cup is decided by a points system over a team event, and singles events (men and women).  There is also a youth event.

Not only are the Americans the defending Champions, but have won the Americas Cup every year except 2010, when the Canadians claimed victory.  Strangely enough, the US provided both singles winners that year, which has only happened on one other occasion!  American singles champions are:

Stacy Bromberg (2002, 2006)
Marilyn Popp (2010, 2012)
John Kuczynski (2004)
Scott Wollaston (2006)
Gary Mawson (2008)
Chuck Pankow (2010)

The US Team for the 2016 Americas Cup is:

Sandy Haas
Sandy Hudson
Joe Chaney
Robbie Phillips
Kerena Reese (Y)
Tyler Burnett (Y)

The action starts on Saturday afternoon with the first round of the team event, followed by the preliminary rounds of the singles.  As soon as draws and schedules are available, they will be posted here.
