2016 BDO World Trophy Schedule of Play

Following on from last week’s posting of the BDO World Trophy draw, here is more detailed information on the event.

Jim Widmayer again travels across the Atlantic as the lone American representative, and in fact, is one of just ten players to compete in all three events.  Of those ten, six are British-based, which leaves Jim alongside Dutchman Wesley Harms, Madars Razma (Lithuania), and Canadian David Cameron as the four non-British ever-presents.

In the inaugural tournament in Blackpool in 2014 (when James Wilson won the title from Ross Montgomery), the New Yorker saw off the efforts of Tony O’Shea before losing to Gary Robson in Round 2.  Last year in Manchester, Jimmy repeated his winning start, this time getting the better of triple World Champion and World Master, Martin Adams.  Sadly, he couldn’t repeat that feat against Geert de Vos, but there was certainly no disgrace in losing to the eventual Champion.

There is also a separate women’s event, although no American – or Canadian – has ever qualified.  Anastasia Dobromyslova became the first winner, beating Lisa Ashton in the final by  a score of 9 legs to 7.  A year ago, Lisa gained revenge by beating the Russian in a repeat of the 2014 final.

So, onto this year’s event…

The tournament kicks off on Saturday at 12.15pm local time with a mouthwatering clash between top seed Glen Durrant, and former BDO World Champion, Andy Fordham.  With all rounds being played over a relatively short format (timed at 30 minutes per match), we won’t have to wait long to see Jim, as he takes on England’s Brian Dawson at 1.45pm.

Saturday’s action brings the first eighteen first-round clashes, featuring both the men and women, with the round concluded on Sunday.  Those six matches are followed by all the second-round games.  The latter stages of both events are played on Monday.

Here is the schedule of play for the entire first round (all times are local – Eastern is five hours behind UK, Central six):
