While many eyes have been focused on the happenings in Las Vegas, some of America’s finest have been heading out of the country.  This weekend sees the 2018 WDF Americas Cup, being held in Claxton Bay, Trinidad.  The event features teams throughout the Americas, including the Caribbean.

The Americas Cup was founded in 2002, and is held in even years, alternating with the WDF World Cup, although the teams are half the size of the World Cup teams.  Regretfully, we were not able to send a youth team to Trinidad, but the quality of the senior team cannot be questioned.  In Lisa Ayers, Sandy Hudson, Robbie Phillips, and Tom Sawyer, the USA will surely have one of the most internationally-experienced teams on show.  Please spare a thought for Larry Butler, though, who was forced to withdraw for health reasons.

The Canadians are the defending champions, having won the 2016 event in Barbados.  Other than 2016, and the 2010 event (also won by Canada), the Americas Cup has been the property of the USA.  We have provided the winners of the men’s and women’s singles on four occasions each.  Stacy Bromberg (2002, 2006) and Marilyn Popp (2010, 2012) are joined by John Kuczynski (2004), Gary Mawson (2006), Gary Mawson (2008), and Chuck Pankow (2010) as singles titlists.

Play starts tomorrow (Saturday) and continues through Monday.
