The American charge here in Hamburg came to an abrupt halt as a dominant Austrian pair advanced to the quarter-finals.  With the event now switching to a singles format (doubles as a decider), Young went down to Zoran Lerchbacher, and Puleo followed suit against Mensur Suljovic.

Big news of the day was the shock defeat of #1 seeds England, as the Republic of Ireland turned on the style.  After Steved (1) Lennon beat Michael Smith 4-3, William O’Connor recorded an incredible 115 average in his 4-1 defeat of Rob Cross.

Joining the Englishmen on the sidelines were fifth-seeded Australia, who lost 2-0 to Canadians Dawson Murschell and Jim Long.  After an impressive first-round display against Wales, Singapore’s Paul Lim and Harith Lim were knocked out by Japan.

The tournament concludes today.
