Joe Chaney’s brave run came to an end at the hands of Welshman Jim Williams, who went to become the eventual winner of the 2019 BDO World Trophy.

Ultimately, “Chanesaw” was handicapped by a slow start in which quickly slipped to a 3-0 deficit.  The 2019 Cleveland Extravaganza winner finally got on the board by checking out from 40 in the fourth.  Joe had a chance to make it 3-2. but just missed from 116.  He had another shot at 116 in the sixth leg, and this too failed, but he cleaned up the D9 next shot.

Down by 5 legs to 2 (and it was first to 6), Chaney soon made it 5-3.  After the Welshman had missed a dart for the match, a check from 58 made it 5-4.  A brilliant 12-darter (100. 140, 180, 81) made it all-square!

The second seed had the advantage of the throw in the decider, and despite another maximum from Chaney, held on to reach the semis.

After edging out the US #1, Williams cruised past New Zealand’s Mark McGrath 7-2 before beating out top seed Richard Veenstra 8-6 in the final.  Four-time World Champion, England’s Lisa Ashton, lifted yet another major title with a 6-2 victory over Anastasia Dobromyslova.
