Joe Chaney – BDO World Trophy

Eleven long years ago, a largely unknown young darter from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, was thrust into the limelight when he made his TV debut in the PDC World Series of Darts.  Later this month, Joe Chaney reappears on the big stage when he competes in the BDO World Trophy, being held in Barry, South Wales.

Now, Joe takes his place not just because of winning a one-day playoff, but because of a remarkable string of performances in American BDO-ranked events.  In the last eighteen months, Chaney has won the Charlotte Open, Colorado Open, Las Vegas Open, and the Camellia Classic.  Add to that a runner-spot in the Virginia Beach Classic, semi-finals at the Music City Classic and White Mountain Shootout, and – just last weekend – a quarter-final finish at the Cleveland Extravaganza, and you can see why “Chanesaw” headed the US Regional Table which qualified him for this event.

Since his 2006 appearance at the Mohegan Sun, Joe has been a regular member of US National Teams, has represented the US at the Americas Cup, and has made several trips to the Winmau World Masters, so he is certainly not short of international experience.

Joe faces Scotland’s Ross Montgomery in the opening match of the tournament on Friday, May 26, and the full draw will be posted here.
