Lakeside Playoff/World Youth Qualifier Results

Joe Chaney will be the only American on stage at the 2018 Lakeside World Championships, as none of our participants progressed past the quarter-finals of the playoffs.

Sandy Hudson started in brilliant fashion, taking out England’s Casey Gallacher on her way to the Top 8 of her bracket.  There, Sandy’s run was brought to an abrupt halt by Scotland’s Olive Byamukama.  Lisa Ayers also kicked off in style, defeating Ireland’s Stacey Bland, but Switzerland’s Fiona Gaylor ended the Chattanoogan’s hopes one round later.

The men fared no better.  Larry Butler, James Cotton, and Jim Fitzsimmons were all eliminated in their first matches.  Dave Walsh posted a couple of impressive victories before dipping out to Michael Unterbuchner, who had already ended Cotton’s weekend.  If it is any consolation, the German went on to qualify for Lakeside.  Like his fellow Bostonian Walsh, Tom Sawyer also won his first two, but Scot Craig Quinn proved too strong.

It was also a very disappointing day for the youths, as Kaylee Roy, Tyler Burnett, and Jacob Demers were all edged out in their opening clashes.

On the bright side, this was a valuable learning experience, and all our players will come back stronger in the future…
