The member Counties of the British Darts Organisation (BDO) have voted overwhelmingly in favour of removing the ‘365-day rule’.

This rule, introduced in 2013, did not allow entry to a BDO event if a player was a member of any organisation that was not recognised by the BDO and/or had participated in any event that was not recognised by the BDO in the preceding 365 days.

The removal of this rule would see every ranking and non-ranking BDO tournament open to ALL players except those who hold a PDC Tour Card or any player that plays in a PDC Pro Tour event.

Sue Williams Chairperson of the BDO said:  “This matter has been the subject of discussion for several months, and as a Board of Directors we felt it was right to give our members the opportunity to decide on the future of our game.

“The ethos of the BDO is Darts for All, and I hope every player across the world will take more confidence in this philosophy as a result of these changes. The ‘365-day’ rule did not reflect the image we would like to project within the whole darting community, and as a result, myself and the other Directors of the BDO Board felt it was time for that to change.

The split in darts happened over 20 years ago and it is time to move on.

This can only be a positive move forward. Not only for the BDO, but the game of darts worldwide.”
