WDF World Cup – Men’s Singles Quarter-Finals

The last hope for American glory at the 2023 WDF World Cup lay with Bruce Robbins. The man from Saugus, MA, faced Berry van Peer in the Last 8 of the singles.

Robbins opened the first leg with a nice 132, but couldn’t capitalize on his advantage, and the Dutchman crept down and checked out from 56, preventing Bruce from having an opportunity to grab the leg. It was a similar story in Leg 2, as the pair came down (despite an opening 180 from van Peer) but again, Bruce didn’t get a shot at his remaining 72.

Our man really stepped it up on the third leg, opening with a brilliant 180, and following with 125, 83! Trouble is, he didn’t get another shot, as Van Peer posted a superb 12-darter (180, 58, 180,83).

Bruce beat Berry down in the fourth leg, leaving 93 with a nice 140. Yet again, his opponent was one step ahead, and checked out from 111. Four legs down, it was always going to be an uphill battle, and despite his best efforts, it was Berry van Peer was to advance to the Top 4. Scant reward for a brave performance from the American.

Van Peer is joined in the semi-finals by Canadian Robbie Mills, German Frank Bruns, and Carles Arola (Catalonia).
