Do we have a new American star on the PDC stage?

Stowe Buntz kicked off his PDC TV career in superb style, as he cruised to a crushing 5-1 victory against dual World Champion, Peter Wright! This gives him a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the tournament.

Buntz started the match quietly with scores of 60, 99, and 100. He suddenly kicked it up a notch, and posted five perfect darts (180, T10, D16) to take the leg in 14 darts. If you think that was good, the next leg was even quicker with 125, 134, 105, 137 (T19, D20, D20) for a 12! The Virginian took a brief step back, and only won the third in 18.

A well-timed 14-darter from the Scot closed the gap, but a nice 15 – with a 116 check – restored Stowe’s three leg advantage. Needing just one more leg for a huge win, Buntz needed just 13 darts (140, 100, 105, 120 – just missing D18 for the match, then D18) to clinch a famous victory.

This leaves Buntz facing another former World Champ – Stephen Bunting – tomorrow (Sunday) evening, after Bunting’s 5-4 win over Dave Chisnall.

Elsewhere, Nathan Aspinall edge out Beau Greaves in a 9-leg thriller, while Michael Van Gerwen averaged over a ton in a 5-1 defeat of Fallon Sherrock. Luke Humphries was anothe to post a 100+ average in his 5-2 triumph over Steve Lennon, while there were also wins for Michael Smith, Gary Anderson, Gerwyn Price, and Rob Cross.
