The Quest or glory continues! Stowe Buntz is in the Quarter-Finals of the Grand Slam, after a 10-5 win against UK Open Champ Andrew Gilding.

The man from Virginia started slowly – with a first shot 26 – but captured the leg after wiring an attempt at 148. A tidy 13-darter made it 2-0, and two legs later it was 5-0. Eleven darts later (180, 140, 149, 32), it was an astonishing 5-0!

Gilding finally got on the board with a win in the sixth, only for Buntz to take the next. The Englishman made it 6-2, only for Stowe to kick it up a gear in the next, racing down to 85 after just nine darts. He hit the T15, but then proceeded to miss 8 darts at a double! No biggie, as he hit it next turn…

The next five legs went with the throw – including a 13-darter (which could have been 11) – and it was 9-5. Just needing the one for the W, it was all over in 17 darts, and Stowe Buntz was in the Quarter-Finals of the Mr. Vegas Grand Slam of Darts! There he will face Stephen Bunting (again!), who beat Danny Nopper 10-4 tonight. You may recall that they met during Group play earlier in the week, and they meet for the second time on Saturday.

Three-time World Champ Michael Van Gerwen was dumped out of the event tonight by Aussie Damon Heta, but another former World Champion, Rob Cross produced the performance of the night. In a game where both players averaged over 103, Cross edged out Nathan Aspinall 10-8. Cross’ winning legs were 14, 12, 15, 15, 14, 13, 15, 15, 16 (that sucked) and 14. Aspinall himself posted a fantastic 10-darter, a 12, two 13’s, and two 15’s.

Tomorrow sees the first two Quarter-Finals, with Josh Rock taking on James Wade, and Luke Humphries facing Gary Anderson.
