2025 BetVictor World Cup of Darts
The American challenge in Frankfurt was ended on Day Two, here in Frankfurt…
Danny Lauby and Jules van Dongen opened their account yesterday, against the Hong Kong pairing of Man Lok Leung and Lok Yin Lee. The first two legs went with the darts, before a missed attempt at 48 allowed Leung and Lee to steal the third. In a short format like this, those missed outs can prove crucial, and it did so here. 2-1 became 3-1, and we needed to break back – and quickly. Sadly, the break wasn’t to come, and it was over after Leg 5.
That left us having to beat Bahrain (Sadeq Mohamed and Hasan Bucheen) comfortably this afternoon, and then hope Bahrain could beat Hong Kong. Again the first two legs were split, but Danny and Jules were far too strong for their inexperienced (at this level) opponents, and took the next three legs comfortably to keep them in the hunt.
The Hong Kong duo, however, proved way too dominant, and ran out 4-0 winners, without allowing the Bahrainis a shot at a double.
To cap a bad couple of days for North America, the Canadian team of Matt Campbell and Jim Long also fell at the first hurdle.
The knockout Round of 16 starts tomorrow.
