As we head into the Christmas break, the news is that there will be no Americans returning to the Ally Pally after this week’s festivities. Both Leonard Gates and Adam Sevada departed the tournament yesterday, along with former ADO #1, Paul Lim (now representing Singapore).

Gates was first on the stage, and was facing Nathan Aspinall. The Texan started off in style, taking the first leg in just 13 darts (140, 100, 83, 140, 38). This was followed by legs of 15, 18, and 15. However, these were all posted by the Englishman, so Aspinall was a set to the good. ‘Soulger’ won the first leg of set two, only for Aspinall to take the next three again. Aspinall took the first leg of the third set, but Gates bounced back to post a brilliant 11-darter (100, 140, 180, 81). This was to be the last leg the ADO #1 was to pocket, and it was game over.

At this point, Arizona’s Adam Sevada was the sole remaining American, by virtue of the playing schedule. Against promising Charlie Manby, it didn’t look like it was going to be easy. After three rapid legs, the 20-year-old was a set up. Three legs later (including a nice 12 with a 95 check), Manby was one set from victory. A sweet 80 finish gave Adam his first leg with a 15-darter. That was to prove the only double hit by Sevada, and our hopes of an American World Champion were over for another year.

Former ADO legend Paul Lim joined Leonard and Adam on the sidelines thanks to an impressive display from 2024 World Champ Luke Humphries.

Since Friday, we have lost a few big names, including Michael Smith, Chris Dobey, and Gerwyn Price. And Danny Noppert. The Dutchman lost an Ally Pally classic today to England’s Justin Hood. Another superb clash saw Ricky Evans take down James Wade. Best average so far was Gian van Veen’s 108.28 (against Alan Soutar), while Gary Anderson showed some vintage form with a 105.41 in his 3-1 defeat of Connor Scutt.

The action resumes on Saturday. Live scoring and updates can be found on the PDC website
